A piece of Germany in China

After day one we were on our own, without the guidance of our new friends Ricky and his parents. We took the bus into Qingdao and again, in case you forgot the busses were packed full of people. Standing room only, no wiggle room. Kind of reminded me of some of my bus rides in the Dominican Republic.
The 1st day we had passed a huge cathedral and we decided to go to it when we were on our own. We counted 9 brides taking pictures. In Chinese culture traditionally the Bride wears red, but most seem to do both now. If you know anything about China you would know that finding or seeing a Christian building is not common.

We went to the pier and "beach number 6" and the rock beach where the boys spent hours searching for crabs and other things that can get caught in whirl pools.
There were rocks that the boys and others looked and looked for crabs and cray fish

We walked the shore back into town, beach number 1 in Qingdao in the background

Good 'ol Burger King!
And of course what is our Blog without a food post! Since we were on vacation we decided to spoil ourselves and go to a familiar place that we stumbled upon....BK!

A side snack was stinky tofu! It smells soooooo bad, hence the name. The vendor let us try it and it was actually decent, it was just fried tofu. So we ordered some and then he put on some sauce and we could take another bite or 2 and that was it....ick. Lesson learned....beware of sauce.

The next day we went to Laoshan with the other english teachers that went with us and hiked the Mountain there, Jufeng. The bus ride was just under 2 hours and then we hiked for about 5 hours. LOTS of Stairs! But the views were great and company was good. More to come on Laoshan tomorrow, but here's a sneak preview....
