So Spring is starting to show it's head a little bit here. We still would like it to warm up more, but still it's great to see the changing season. Not really sure what to update everyone with, Jami had a great Birthday, she got Birthday wishes from 2 of her sisters and all of my family. It's been a while and the pictures are elsewhere but on my facebook account there is a video of her opening her present, which was a trip to see her sisters in Denver...Thanks everyone for showing her how special she is to you!
Also our baby Everest turned 6 years old earlier this month, again Jami's 2 sisters and all my family helped us wish him a great birthday! We had a little birthday party for him and it was a pajama party and we got to break a pinata! Good times were had all around.
The 3rd event that happened went down this last weekend, Easter weekend, we got bees and install the hives. We had a great time, some Friends of ours from church and the missionaries came over and video taped it. These are the best sequence of pictures that show the process.
Below is the 1st video, this just shows the bees and how we get them.
This video is of me taking the Queen box out from the hive. Can look scary, but not too bad.
This is where we get the frame ready to put the Queen on it, we will place the Queen on the frame being held on to it by the rubber band. There is a cork in the little box that keeps the queen from escaping. I have to remove that, put a piece of candy or a marshmellow there and then once the bees get dumped into the box (seen in video 4) they will eat the queen out and she can then do her business.
This is the last video, the 4th and most "exciting" of them all. Here you spray the bees with sugar water, the more you spray them the better it is for the dumper (me), I don't think you see them get sprayed, Jami already did that. Then you have to pound the box down to dislodge all the bees and then you turn and dump them into their new home. We bought two 3lb packages and there are estimated 9-12 thousand bees per package.
All in all it went really well. I only got stung once, a bee got caught in my hair and it got me right on top of the head. No one else got stung and in the videos you can see they were right there with me the whole time. We are excited for this new adventure and hobby!
Last but not least here is a picture of Elijah, Everest and Ethan in their new digs and family photo of us in our Sunday best before church on Sunday. Hope everyone had a great Easter.
