Memorial Weekend

Before the Memorial Day weekend, I was able to take the boys to the pond in the backyard and try our hand at fishing, didn't do to good, if you know me, I'm not a fisherman. Elijah also had some school events going on, we went a a relay race that they had for all the 1st graders. It was fun to watch the kids run and have a good time. Also Elijah was in a school play about the 3 little pigs, he was in the chorus.

We finally had a 3 day weekend in which we weren't unpacking or doing something regarding a move. It was nice. On Friday, Steve (my father-in-law) came over with Remmi and Julie (hound dogs) and we went out Coon Huntin' when it got dark. For you city folk Coon=Racoon, in these here parts. On the hunt we found 1 Coon, 1 Possum and Remmi found a Skunk and boy did he find it, he got sprayed and did he stink, I'm just glad we weren't there to see the skunk. For those that are curious, all we can do with the coons at this time is tree 'em. The killing season isn't till August, then once they are treed you can shoot 'em. Once they are treed in competitions the hunter/man has 10 min to find the coon in the tree, which is harder than it sounds (see Picture), there are all sorts of rules in the Coon Huntin' Competitions. Coon huntin' is a big thing out here. I would say my 1st experience was awesome, we had a good time, the sky was clear and you could see every star out there and we got some good hiking in following the sound of the bark. Also we didn't have to drive anywhere, we just had to go into the backyard.

Saturday was a day of preperation and shopping, we went into Town (Ottumwa) and picked some things up and hit the new movie, Indian Jones with the Boys! It was a good flick and the boys enjoyed it as well, a couple of scary parts for Everest, but overall a fun movie.

On Sunday we went to Church and Jami and I had to give our "Welcoming" talks, which was our 1st talks in like 6-7 years. Someone finally caught us. The subject was Love, Jami did awsome as you can all imagine. Then after church we went to Steve and Annes for a BBQ and to celebrate Annes Birthday. We have a good time over there, we get to play with the dogs, cats, horses and the goat, plus ride the ATV.

On Monday we had a nice relaxing day, we finally put together the chairs that we got from Mom and Dad on Christmas, they sure were nice to sit in and are perfect for out here. We then went to a BBQ at the Warning's (Brian and Margie), that was fun and the boys had a blast, the eats were good and they are great people. In fact everyone we have met here in Iowa are very, very nice and outgoing. It's a great community!

Oh my gosh..... the poor possum! and Coons... you know, I have coons in my back yard that come for Emme's food during the winter... you didn't need to go all the way to Iowa to catch them!

I'm not liking the Killing part though.... I'm an animal lover girl... that is pure murder for me to hear about.... I'll skip that post how about hahhaha.

It looks like "boy heaven" there with the frogs and ponds and critters of all sorts! fun, fun.
